NEW BREMEN â It was the Minster Wildcat boys team and the Versailles Tiger girls team that came home with the first place trophies in the annual Midwest Athletic Conference track meet held Friday at New Bremen.
Minster won the boyâs title with 173 points. Versailles was second at 105 and Delphos St. Johnâs was third at 56.5. New Bremen was fourth at 66 points and New Knoxville was eighth with 30 points.
On the girlâs side Versailles beat Minster 147 to 105.5 points. Coldwater was third with 105.5 points. New Bremen was fifth with 50 points and New Knoxville was 10th with 25 points.
NEW BREMEN â The 2012 New Bremen baseball team had things rolling in the MAC until the final few games. The Cardinals jumped out to a 6-1 league record and had three games remaining. They traveled to Versailles but were defeated 7-4. After defeating Fort Recovery 3-1 they only needed to defeat Parkway to clinch their first MAC title.
May 4 the Cardinals and Panthers played five innings tied 1-1 when lightning suspended the game. Saturday they completed the game and the breaks went the Panthers way in the sixth inning as they defeated New Bremen 4-2 in the final game for both teams.
FORT LORAMIE â Every season has to come to an end and Fort Loramie girls softball post season ended on Thursday, May 10 in sectional tournament action against Riverside, 4-2.
âYou never want to see a season end but we had a good season,â said Fort Loramie coach Brad Turner. âIt would have been nice to keep going but we had a good one.â
Riverside cracked the scoreboard in the first inning when Whitney Jenkins had an RBI single to center field sending Taylor Anderson across the plate.

MINSTER â Local students had the opportunity to enjoy the spring weather Friday morning while learning about both banking and the history of Minster.
About 65 fifth-grade students, split into three groups, participated in a walking field trip to Minster Bank and the Minster Historical Society in downtown Minster, said fifth-grade teacher Jodi Prenger.
âAt the bank, Connie Meiring and Kris Kuck are going to be reading a program called, âWhat Does It Cost Now,ââ she said.
ST. MARYS â In a recent survey, Grand Lake Health Systemâs Transitional Care Unit was ranked the fourth best in the state by the Ohio Department of Aging.
The unit received a 97.58 score for overall satisfaction from the ODA 2011 Resident Satisfaction Survey of Ohio Nursing Homes, said Sara Busacca, nurse manager for the GLHS transitional care unit.
MINSTER â Four local girl scouts were recently honored for completing their Gold Awards â the highest honor in the Girl Scouts of America Program.
Lauren Jutte and Megan Timmerman of Minster and Kristen Hemmelgarn and Molly Hardesty of Maria Stein were among the scouts recognized by the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio, in a ceremony held April 23 at the Lima Girl Scout Center-Duffy
Lodge.
âWe have a light dinner and then they just have each of us go up and explain our projects,â Jutte said. â
And then they award us with a bunch of different things.â
MINSTER â The Minster Village councilors discussed two ordinances during their meeting Monday, May 1.
In the first ordinance of discussion, councilors went over the second reading concerning vacating a portion of North Street and authorized a quick claim deed, transferring that portion to Precision Strip.
âA notice of public hearing to consider such vacation request was published for six consecutive times in a paper of general circulation in accordance to the Ohio Revised Code,â Village Administrator Don Harrod said.

MARIA STEIN â As the clean-up hitter in the St. Marys line-up, St. Marysâ Michael Huber looked out at the flag in center field whipping directly out and saw the opportunity for a big day.
âAs a hitter, I was definitely excited,â he said.
Huber said the wind helped him on the hill, too.
The Rider senior hit two home runs â including a seventh-inning grand slam â and pitched six strong innings in St. Marysâ 8-2 win over Marion Local on Thursday.
Huber hit a towering grand slam over the wall in left field to put St. Marys up 8-2 in the top of the
seventh.
ST. HENRY â Minsterâs foray into Friday night extra innings produced a happier ending this time thanks to a pair of home runs and a relief appearance from Austin Knapke that had the length of a start.
A week after losing in 15 innings in a Midwest Athletic Conference contest at Coldwater, Minster emerged with a win from a double-digit inning affair against another Mercer County MAC foe.
On a day Minster (19-5, 6-2 MAC) struggled to hit the ball, it was a pair of home runs that got the job done.
FORT LORAMIE â The Redskins improved to 8-1 in the Shelby County League and 15-7 overall with a 10-0 run-rule over Houston on Thursday, May 3.
The Redskins cracked the scoreboard in the first inning with a lead off single from Kyle Bolheimer started the Fort Loramie offense. A walk to Joel Hilgefort brought up Seth Guillozet who had an RBI single to center field sending Bolheimer across the plate for a 1-0 Redskins lead.
In the second and third innings neither team scored due to good defense and pitching by both squads.
