Lady Flyers Down St. Marys, Coldwater

• ST. MARYS — Locked into the top seed in its sectional tournament and the Midwest Athletic Conference already conquered after last Thursday’s win over Fort Recovery, Marion Local head coach Treva Fortkamp expected a letdown in intensity.
Marion Local  didn’t look like itself at times on Tuesday night , but even its B-game is pretty formidable as the Flyers showed in a 62-35 win at St. Marys in which they never trailed.
If anything, the sectionally top-seeded Flyers (16-3) got acclimated to the site where they hope to be playing district tournament games in two weeks.

Ladies Down Parkway In Regular Season Finale

NEW BREMEN — The New Bremen Lady Cardinals basketball team started the fourth quarter Thursday with a 12-2 run and it garnered the Cardinals their first MAC victory of the season with a 60-52 win over the Parkway Panthers in the first regular season game of the year at New Bremen.
“We were down by 10 points with four minutes left,” Cardinals head coach Randy Eckert said. “It just showed that there was no quit in the girls tonight.

Bremen Falls To Parkway, Beats Spencerville

• NEW BREMEN – Withstanding two last second three-point chances the New Bremen Cardinals basketball team survived to defeat the Spencerville Bearcats 71-58 Saturday evening in a wild non-league game played at New Bremen.
“Our kids kept fighting,” Spencerville head coach Kevin Sensabaugh said. “We got a pretty good effort out of our guys and we battled through some adversity but the big thing that killed us was rebounding. They killed us on the boards and that is what won the game. They dominated us on the boards and you can’t win if you don’t rebound.”

Boys Fall To St. Henry

MINSTER - A big second half propelled St. Henry to a 51-42 victory over fellow Midwest Athletic Conference opponent Minster on Friday night’s Senior Night.
“For as well as we started out the game — we had pretty good ball movement and ball reversal and so forth against their zones, which we addressed the entire week — we just did a rotten job once they switched defenses and that unfortunately carried over into the second half, and they basically just slowed us to a crawl,” said Minster head coach Mike Lee.

Ladies Beat St. Henry, Fall To Ottoville

• ST. HENRY - A big third quarter propelled Minster to a 49-39 victory over fellow Midwest Athletic Conference opponent St. Henry in the regular season finale for both teams on Thursday night.
“It might be the longest game of my life. It seemed a lot longer than that. Just a lot of whistles, a lot of fouls out-of bounds and deflections,” said Minster head coach Nann Stechschulte. … “On a road, MAC game, I’m just happy to come away with a win.”
Two minutes into the first quarter, St. Henry’s Sarah Moeder hit a three-pointer for the first score of the game.

Minster beats Knoxville, St. Marys

• NEW KNOXVILLE - It all came down to free throws as Minster defeated New Knoxville 56-52 in a Midwest Athletic Conference contest on Friday night.
“Going on the road, you just have to make sure that you stay aggressive, even though it wasn’t pretty,” said Minster head coach Mike Lee. “Hats off to their team as well. I thought both teams competed hard.”
After trailing by 1-point with 1:44 left in the game, Minster hit 8-of-10 free throws in the final 1:02 for the victory.
Adam Niemeyer personally hit 7-of-8 free throw attempts in the game’s final 21 seconds.

Bremen beats Celina, falls to Versailles

• CELINA – The New Bremen Cardinals basketball team showed just how aggressive they can be on offense and defense Saturday night against the Celina Bulldogs. After a tough MAC loss to Versailles on Friday, the Cardinals responded with 21 points each from Aaron Clune and Elliott Westerbeck to defeat the Bulldogs 69-60 at the Fieldhouse in Celina.

Lady Wildcats fall to New Knoxville, Anna

• MINSTER —A series of free throws in the final two minutes allowed the New Knoxville Rangers to down Minster 43-41 in a match-up  of Midwest Athletic Conference heavyweights.
“It’s a big win whenever you can come into Minster here and pull off a win, because they’ve got a very good team,” said New Knoxville head coach Tim Hegemier. “I think the girls worked real hard on defense.”
Trailing by three points with just over two minutes remaining in the game, Minster hit three straight free throws, including two by senior Kayla Wuebker, to tie the game at 40 with 52 seconds remaining.

Ladies beat Spencerville, fall to Versailles

• SPENCERVILLE – With a couple injuries the New Bremen Lady Cardinals basketball team has had to shake up their lineup a little bit and Tuesday evening they got a 16-point second quarter and handily defeated the Spencerville Bearcats 43-27 at Spencerville.
“I thought we played well defensively when we had to tonight,” Cardinals head coach Randy Eckert said. “Offensively we did some good things and we have had to go to some different people with Kyla Otting being out and they responded tonight.”

Bremen trackster commits to Grace

The Grace College track and field program has announced the signing of Kyleigh Suchland for the 2012-13 season.
Suchland, a native of New Bremen, Ohio, is a standout performer for New Bremen High School. A versatile athlete, Suchland has competed in both sprint events and the long jump.
She currently has the school record in the long jump for her effort of 16-feet-9.5 inches.
