Arts Place Art in Fashion on July 9

Staff Writer

Arts Place Auglaize/Mercer Center along with Bette Sherman will be hosting Art in Fashion on Sunday, July 9, at 2 p.m. to look at the impact of art and fashion throughout history.

This event will be held at the St. Mary’s Eagles, East Spring St., St.Marys. Doors open at 1:20 p.m. for a reception that includes light hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Tickets are $20 and are available in advance or at the door.

Bette Sherman, amusingly recognized as the “Queen of Stuff,” has been a passionate collector of antique and vintage women’s fashion and beauty products for nearly 30 years. Her turn of the century home is the perfect backdrop for her beautifully displayed collections, many of which have been featured in books, magazine and newspaper articles on antiques and collectibles.

Sherman’s interest in the history of beauty and fashion was a natural step from her career as a stylist producing fashion shows for major department stores and shopping centers, and styling numerous catalogs for clients in New York and Chicago. Her research and the building of her extensive cosmetic and perfume collection offers a glimpse into the boudoirs and dressing tables of women from the past who wore the latest fashions.

Sherman has been showing her collections — and entertaining groups — for many years. Her knowledge, sense of humor and passion for the past will leave audiences laughing and wanting “stuff” of their own.
