By Katie Yantis Staff Writer MINSTER — Village Councilors in Minster discussed a few topics during Tuesday night's meeting. The first item on the agenda for council members was the third and final reading for a mutual aid agreement with the Loramie Fire District.
The mutual aid agreement will allow Minster to assist the Loramie Fire District with property that is in Shelby County, but closer for Minster to respond. Minster will receive $11,980 for the coverage of properties in McClean Township. “It is based on the millage of the property,” Village Administrator Don Harrod said. Councilors also approved a second reading authorizing the execution of a contract for income tax collections with the city of St. Marys. “It is a three year contract,” fiscal officer John Stechschulte said. “They have done it for the past three years and they will be doing it for the next three years.” Councilors are working on passing legislation to close an alley between Ohio and Cleveland Streets and Third Street and Wooden Shoe to Precision Strip Inc. “They own the land on both sides of the alley,” Harrod said. “There are no utilities in the alley so there is no reason for use to keep it.” Harrod said Precision Strip Inc. will be turning the alley into a parking area. Council has had a few changes in the appropriations and designations of funds. “We have always estimated low or high,” Harrod said. “Now they want us to be right on the dollar.” Harrod said the change in standards is due to recommendations from the auditor. Harrod reported the minor resurfacing project has been completed. “It was finished just in time before it got cold,” Harrod said. Streets included in the project were Parkview Drive, Midway Drive, Frankfort Street from Fourth to just south of Second, Second Street from Cleveland to Ohio, Sixth Street east of Garfield and the alley between Main and Lincoln from First to Third, as well as the alley between Lincoln and Hanover from Seventh to Sixth. A date has been set for Dec. 5 for bid opening for the design/build for a new wading pool. Plans have continued, and an application was sent to Ohio EPA by the Fire Chief for the Dec. 7 date to burn the Luedeke House. The parks and recreation department has taken various steps to prepare the parks for the winter season. Included in these steps are works to the pond, removing silt and replacing rip rap as well as placing barriers around the grass line to prevent dirt blowing. With no new business Harrod mentioned the village offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 27 and Friday Nov. 28 for Thanksgiving, and the council went into executive session to discuss personnel and the sale of land. |
