By Allison Roorda Community Post Flying bowling balls, bean bag chairs and pins were among the entertainment for kids at Four Seasons Park. David Kaplan describes himself as an Eccentric Comedy Entertainer.
“I try to make my shows for everyone,” he said. “Kids, adults, anyone who would enjoy them.” This year Kaplan has 15-20 library shows and festivals planned. In past years he has traveled to Italy, London, Germany, Dayton and all over the United States. “I was a musician to begin with,” explained Kaplan. Kaplan demonstrated his talents by playing “When You Wish Upon a Star” on the turkey baster and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” with a squeaky balloon. Among the flying objects and card tricks, Kaplan also encouraged his audience to visit the library and participate in the summer reading program. He said he had learned many of his magic tricks from books he had read at the library. Kaplan also told people to take action in the face of the newly proposed budget cuts to Ohio’s public library systems. “They’re going to cut the budget in half,” said Kaplan. “Get on your phones or send an email. We need our libraries.” Kaplan has 15 to 20 library shows and festivals around the U.S. this year. The Village of Minster provided the funds for Kaplan’s visit. “The village has been awesome,” said Branch Supervisor Becky Prenger. “They sponsored three performers this summer.” Besides Kaplan, the village is also bringing out Thomas Plunkard on Wednesday, July 1 and Jason Abbott on Wednesday, July 8 for magic performances at Four-Seasons Park at 6:30 p.m. |
