SIDNEY – In the second round of ladies basketball tournaments on Tuesday, Feb. 23, the Redskins of Ft. Loramie traveled to Sidney to take on the Bradford Railroaders. The Redskins, coming off a win against Fairlawn on Saturday, look to forward their progress in the tournament.

The game started quickly for Loramie as several assists and lay-ups put the Skins’ ahead at 12 to zero. Foul shots on Bradford’s end put the Railroaders on the board but Loramie was able to end the first quarter with a large lead at 19-2. The second quarter was much the same as the Redskins’ continued adding on to their lead while keeping Bradford to just one point, ending the first half at 35-3.
The story-line changed little in the second half, but Bradford was able to get six more on the board, but that wasn’t near enough as the Redskins’ added 23 points of their own, ending the third at 58-9. Loramie then just controlled the tempo for the rest of the game, scoring nine more and only allowing four points to be scored for Bradford, ending the game at 67-13.
This win also has another huge meaning besides a step closer to state for the Redskins. With the win, Coach Carla Siegel reached a major stepping stone in winning her 200th career win, with only 78 losses during her 11 year head-coaching career.
Loramie was led by Clair Ruhenkamp with 18 points, as Janel Olberding followed closely with 16 of her own. Senior Kara Gasson followed with eight and juniors Brooke Turner and Kristen Zumberger ended with six points each.
In tournament action Saturday, Feb. 27, the Fort Loramie Redskins traveled to Sidney to take on a county rival in the Russia Raiders to attempt to claim the sectional title for Division 4.
The game started slowly for the Redskins as Russia quickly took control of the game, jumping to 6-3 lead early. The Skins’ managed to fight back, only to be countered by 4 more points from Russia, ending the first quarter at 10-5. Loramie seemed to catch a rhythm in the second as they managed to tie it back up at 12. Several Janel Olberding lay-ups then helped to push the Redskins ahead, ending the first half at a close game at 18-14 with Loramie gaining a lead.
Russia just couldn’t find the momentum like they had in the first quarter as Loramie managed to control most of the rest of the game, adding on to their lead and ending the third quarter at 32-19. Russia never gained back the much needed momentum as Loramie would continue to add on to their lead while holding the Lady Raiders to just seven points in the fourth, thus ending the game and earning the sectional title and another week of tournament play.
Olberding led the Redskins with 16 points, being followed by Brooke Turner who had 11. Tessa Benanzer also added eight points herself while Clair Ruhenkamp ended her game with five.
Russia was led by Brook Gariety who finished with 10 points while junior Katie Borchers followed up with seven of her own.
