TIPPECANOE – On a great Saturday afternoon, the Lady Redskins of Fort Loramie traveled to Tippecanoe to take on the Lady Bucs of Covington for the right to be called the Southwest Division 4 district champs.

The game started quickly for the Skins’ as a jumper from Brooke Turner and a three from Tessa Benanzer gave Loramie a quick 5-0 lead early in the first quarter. A Loramie rebound led to a Clair Ruhenkamp lay-up, pushing the Redskins’ to a 7-0 lead. A couple of open passes down low for Covington, though, would put the Bucs on the board at last. But a couple of turnovers from Covington would lead to two Ruhenkamp lay-ups, pushing Loramie ahead even more. The quarter would then end with the Redskins’ still holding the lead at 16-4. The second quarter looked to belong to the Bucs as an early three from Alyssa Angle closed the gap. But a three from Loramie’s Kristen Zumberger would counter soon after, making the score 19-7. A great Loramie defense and press led to several Covington turnovers and many Loramie buckets, ending the first half at 29-9.
The second half was much of the same story as Loramie would continue to add on to their lead and strike hard with a strong defense. A couple of Loramie threes early in the third didn’t help matters for Covington as more turnovers led to a 43-20 lead at the end of the third with Loramie having the advantage. And then a Kylie Drees three at 1:11 left in the final quarter would seal the District title for the 'Skins, winning at a score of 61-26.
Loramie was led by Ruhenkamp, who put up 16 points for the Redskins. She was followed up by Janel Olberding and Kristen Zumberger, each with 11 points, as Zumberger had three three-pointers on the game. Turner also ended the game with eight points herself.
Covington was led by Alyssa Angle with eight points, and Halley Roberts ended with five points of her own.
