By Lauren Turner Sports Correspondent The Fort Loramie boys basketball team was able to hang with Houston the first half, but after that, Houston’s powerful 1-2 punch in Dan Estes and Dustin Schwable proved to be too much for the Redskins. The Wildcats would end up winning 73-58.
The first quarter ended with Houston ahead 18-13, but the ‘Skins were not ready to give Houston complete control of the game right away because they came out strong in the second quarter also. Loramie was actually down by one with just seconds to go in the second quarter, but Estes was able to pull up a three-pointer before the buzzard to give them a 4-point lead at half. That was the closest the ‘Skins would ever get to the Wildcats for the rest of the night. The third quarter was too much for Loramie, especially when Houston hit two threes right away, giving them a quick 10-point lead. The third quarter ended with Houston leading 55-41. Estes had a terrific night for the Wildcats with 27 points. Mitch Westerheide lead Loramie with 16 points while also being in foul trouble. Kyle Turner was next with 12 points, with 9 of them from behind the arc. In all, eight Loramie players put points on the board. For the junior varsity contest, Loramie won 50-44. |
