By Lauren Turner Sports Correspondent Tradition lives on at Fort Loramie as the Lady Redskins captured another district championship title by beating Tri-Village Saturday afternoon. The great tournament play was continued by the Redskins as they defeated the Lady Patriots 47-32.
Fort Loramie's defense was a key to their victory as they forced Tri-Village into eight early turnovers in just one quarter's play. They capitalized on such plays to get transition baskets and for the momentum to fall their way. After eight minutes of play, the Lady 'Skins were up 12-4. Fort Loramie continued their defensive effort, but Tri-Village started to come alive in the second quarter. They soon made it a one-point game. However, freshman Clair Ruhenkamp of Fort Loramie made sure her team was not going to lose their lead. She poured in six points at the end of the second quarter to assure her team a seven point half time lead. The score read 26-19. As the second half of play started, Fort Loramie once again found their groove on both ends of the floor. Offensively, they were getting good shots off and often would pull down offensive rebounds to allow another chance at adding more points to the board. The 'Skins had 13 offensive rebounds to the Patriots 5. They also had two more defensive rebounds than Tri-Village. By the end of the third quarter, the Redskins lead 40-25. The lead after the third quarter was key for Fort Loramie because in the fourth quarter both teams put seven points on the board. Neither team could pull away in the fourth quarter, so the clock ran down and Fort Loramie did enough to hold onto the lead to win 47-32. Kelsea Otis led Fort Loramie with 13 points and five assists. Clair Ruhenkamp had 12 points from off the bench. Janel Olberding also had five assists. Krista Watercutter led Fort Loramie with five steals. The Lady 'Skins play Thursday night at 8:00 p.m. at Vandalia Butler High School versus Lehman Catholic. |
