With gas prices constantly on the rise, some Minster residents have been asking about alternative modes of transportation.

Mayor Dennis Kitzmiller brought before council questions from  residents about the legality of using golf carts on town roads.
“They get 50 miles to the gallon. I'm sure they'll become more attractive,” explained Kitzmiller.
Police Chief Randy Houseworth said, “We can make this as complex or as simple as you like. As long as they're inspected , it's not a huge issue until we start doing it a lot.”
Houseworth added that golf carts need to be inspected by the department in order to be by state standards. As long as the standards are complied with, golf carts are allowed on side streets that are 25 miles per hour or lower speeds and to only be driven by those 16 or older.
The streets committee will include this issue in their next meeting's discussion.
Prior to council meeting, a public hearing was held to rezone land behind Dr. Bergman's office. Cotterman and Company, which owns the land, wishes to change the 1.0393 parcel from residential to commercial zoning. The roofing company purchased this property to avoid becoming landlocked in the future but have no current plans to start any construction on the property. Council took a first reading of this ordinance for the change during the regular meeting.
Council members additionally adopted an emergency ordinance dedicating Northgate Drive to the Village of Minster. This was done to expedite the development of an additional business along Northgate Drive. The roadway, however, needs to be dedicated to the village in order to be surveyed or developed.
Also during the brief meeting, council made a motion to hire seasonal employees for Minster’s pool and for the parks and recreation department, and they renewed the Ohio Municipal League Workers Compensation group rating. The enrollment fee for the village is $4,019, which is the same as last year. The village sees an estimated savings of more than $60,000 annually as a result of participation in this pool.
Highlights from the administrator’s report included:
*The Midway Drive Reconstruction Project is well underway. Coate Construction expects to wrap up the project with paving the week of June 2nd.
*The village electric department recently worked with various contractors to set an 88 foot laminated pole near Minster’s wastewater treatment plant. This pole is a part of the 69kV transmission line project. Crews expect to begin setting a second pole, similar in size, in the coming weeks.
*Season passes for the village pool are now on sale and may be purchased during regular pool hours. The cost of passes are $75 for a family pass and $50 for an individual pass. Daily admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children 2 and older.
Swimming lessons will be taught again this summer. The lessons will run in two blocks beginning in June. The price of the lesson will be $30 per child. A Kinderkamp will also be offered for children ages 3 to 5. This will be offered in two-week sessions from 10 a.m.-12:45 p.m. The cost for this is $40 per child. Sign up for lessons and Kinderkamp began on May 19.
