From Staff Reports Fort Loramie fell short of their coveted repeat of the state title when Patrick Henry beat out the smaller school in the Division IV state semifinals at Cooper Stadium on Friday, June 6, with a final score of 9-2.
Four Redskin fielding errors, three of which came in the first inning, cost Fort Loramie dearly as the Henry Patriots secured an early two-run lead. “That was huge,” Fort Loramie coach Bill Sturwold said. “In a game of this magnitude and in this atmosphere, it’s important to get off to a good start. They did and took advantage of it.” Patrick Henry added two more runs in the third before the fifth inning saw more action. Fort Loramie scored two runs in the top of the inning, but a misjudged ball in the outfield proved costly in the bottom of the inning, and the Patriots were able to score three more. “It’s disappointing because we didn’t play our best game,” Sturwold said. “Give it up to Patrick Henry. They’re a very athletic team and had outstanding speed, bunting for hits on sacrifice situations. It’s going to take a great effort to beat them.” |
