By Allison Roorda Community Post Despite warm weather and perfect days for swimming, the Minster Community Pool has been having problems this summer.
Prior to the pool's opening, plans were in place for the installation of a water slide. However, the new water slide is currently closed for use because the water below the slide is six inches below standards set by the Ohio Department of Health. New plans have proposed that the slide be moved to the west side of the pool near the one-meter diving board, where the water is deeper. “If we say we are going to do something, we need to follow throught,” Steve Kitzmiller said to the council. “We need to make the dream reality.” While the water depth beside the diving board is deep enough for regulations, there are problems with the fence installed around the pool last year. “If enough force is used the fence can be pulled apart a couple of inches,” said Don Harrod. “The fence needs to be fixed before we get the go-ahead for the slide.” Also slated for construction at the community pool is a baby pool. Harrod explained that Choice One engineers have nearly completed the necessary drawings, and the pool should be ready by summer 2009. In other action, councilors: • Gave third and final reading to an ordinance amending the local zoning map. A & M Realty, doing business as Cotterman Roofing, requested their proerty near the Rosebug Subdivision be rezoned from residential to commercial. Council received no negative comments regarding the request. • Accepted the annexation of 1.863 acres west of the intersection of state Routes 66 and 119. The property is owned by Dick and Julianna Weigandt who wish to use village utilities. • Gave first reading to an ordinance vacating a utility easement between lots 59 and 60 in Parkview Acres Subdivision Phase II. Argus Group, which owns the property, plans to combine the lots prior to sale. • Received an update on a June 20 accident involving the village's 2001 GMC truck. Employee Ed Yaney, who escaped injury, lost control of the vehicle when a tire blew along Minster-Egypt Pike. The truck overturned and the trailer it was towing jackknifed. Officials are seeking repair estimates. • Approved a request from Rick Fortman to use Four Seasons Park and sell beer there during a men's league tournament Aug. 1-3 and the annual alumni softball tournament the following weekend. • Hired Greg Sommer as a part-time seasonal employee in the parks department. Sommer, who has seen his hours cut at Lake Loramie State Park, will be paid an hourly rate of $7.25. • Met in executive session to discuss the purchase of land but took no action after emerging from the 45-minute closed-door meeting. |
