Norman R. “Rick” Slavik II, age 61, of Celina, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008 at O.S.U Medical Center in Columbus, following a sudden illness.
He was born Jan. 26, 1947, in Celina, to the late Norman R. Slavik and Helen (Grenzebach) Slavik-Peck of Saint Marys. On Nov. 22, 1990, he married Jane (Kuck) Slavik. He is survived by four children: Matt (Lindsay) Slavik of Celina, Amy Slavik of Columbus, Beth (Aaron) Carstens of Dayton and Megan Slavik of Chicago, Ill.; as well as four step-children: Jerry (Lucy) Merges of New Knoxville, Doug (LoriAnn) Merges of Parma, Idaho, Laurie Campbell of Lakewood, and Samantha (Andy) Fitz of Avon Lake; and 13 grandchildren. He also leaves behind five siblings: Susan (Mark) Slavik-Chenven of San Diego, Calif., Betsy (Jonathon) Johnson of San Diego, Calif., Tom (Rosa) Slavik of Damascus, Va., Barbara Slavik of Port Angeles, Wash. and Jane (Gary) Margolis of Mahopac, N.Y. He was a 1964 graduate of Coldwater High School; 1972 graduate of OSU School of Veterinary Medicine and was a partner in Coldwater Animal Clinic. He was President of the Lakefield Airport Authority, Past President and current board member of the Ohio Aviation Assoc. and a member of the Mercer County Republican Central Committee. Service will be held at Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Coldwater on Friday, Aug. 15, 2008 at 10:30 a.m., with Sharon A. Showman M.Div., Ph.D officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, Aug, 14, 2008 from 2 to 8 p.m., and on Friday Aug. 15, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. In Lieu of gifts memorials can be made to Animal Protection League P.O.
