Auglaize County Libraries Add New Services

Staff Writer

The Auglaize County Libraries announced the addition of new services recently.

“Auglaize County Libraries are proud to announce the addition of Hoopla to our services available through the library. We hope you enjoy this amazing service,” said Beth Steiner, Director of the Auglaize County Public District Library System about the addition of their new entertainment program.

Hoopla is a provider of entertainment media products and services: eBooks, DVDs, CDs, audiobooks and shelf-ready solutions. Hoopla digital builds on the passion of public libraries to providing its patrons with an enormous selection of digital video (movies and TV shows), music, audiobooks, ebooks and comics. It has pioneered a unique model which allows patrons to borrow content immediately, removing any artificial availability constraint and maximizes the power of digital content and internet distribution. Technologically, it focuses on the latest browser, phone, tablet and TV products to deliver the best possible experience to  public library patrons.

Hoopla allows patrons to borrow digital video (movies and TV shows), music, audiobooks, ebooks and comics with a library card. There are no holds. All items are always available. Patrons may borrow up to four items per month. To use Hoopla you must have your library card and a pin number. If you don’t have those, visit your library to get set up. It’s free. Sign-up is also simple. Go to https://www.auglaizelibraries.org/content/hoopla-digital-borrowing. An app is also available on the Apple App Store, Google Play, Amazon, Chromecast, Apple TV, Android TV, Fire TV and Roku.

ABCmouse.com Now Free

ABCmouse.com, an online curriculum used by millions of children, is now being offered for free at each of the libraries. Winner of numerous awards from national education, parent and media organizations, ABCmouse.com offers kid-friendly, interactive learning activities for preschool, pre-K, kindergarten and beyond, covering reading and language arts, math, science, social studies, art, music and more. Parents and kids have used ABCmouse.com as a supplement to their education.

Auglaize County Libraries can now offer access to ABCmouse.com for free within the libraries. The site is normally available to paid subscribers but can now be accessed for free to our patrons on our public computers. You can also access ABCmouse.com on any mobile device using the library’s Wi-Fi.

Lucky Day Hotspots

Auglaize County Libraries now have Lucky Day Hotspots in addition to their regularly circulating Mobile Hotspots at each library location, graciously sponsored by Arby’s of Wapakoneta.

Hotspots offer you the chance to transform any cell signal into internet – at home, in the car, at the game, wherever – with no cost to you. The new “unholdable” Hotspots will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. If this hotspot is on display at your library, then it’s your lucky day and it’s available for checkout. You can skip the holds list and still check it out for the regular two-week period.

In 2017, the six locations of the Auglaize County Public District Library System began offering Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot devices which allow you to connect a mobile-enabled device, such as a laptop, smartphone or tablet, to the Internet. The devices are available for checkout at the following public libraries in Auglaize County: Wapakoneta, Cridersville, Minster, New Bremen, New Knoxville and Waynesfield.

A Mobile Hotspot is portable, so you can connect your device almost anywhere you go, whether at home, in the park or on vacation.

The mobile devices are part of a growing trend nationally in which public libraries are expanding services beyond traditional lending of books, DVDs and CDs. These lending programs perform a critical role: in addition to providing basic broadband access to low-income residents, they allow patrons to access free e-books and other digital library resources, and they enable users to complete online job applications and perform other critical web-based processes at home. Outreach efforts are also aimed at the elderly and disabled, who often need access to healthcare information.

For more information about checking out a Mobile Hotspot, visit or call one of the participating libraries. You may also request a Mobile Hotspot device online at www.auglaizelibraries.org.

Residents may place a hold on the devices and the library will notify you when your device is being held for you to pick up. There are a total of 10 Mobile Hotspot devices available to the public for a check out of up to 14 days only: three at Wapakoneta and one at each of the branch locations. The two additional Mobile Hotspots are available to be scheduled for specific calendar dates.
