Country Fest in Maria Stein June 23-25

Staff Writer

Tens of thousands of people are expected to flock to Maria Stein this weekend to enjoy one of the area’s premier summer festivals at the 30th Annual Maria Stein Country Fest June 23-25 on the grounds of the Shrine of the Holy Relics.

Each year, Country Fest activities draw a crowd of tens of thousands of people, a testament to how successful the festival has become nearly three decades after the Knights of St. John, American Legion and Retreat Shrine combined their three festivals into one.

It has only grown as the Tractor Square Dancing show became a nationally-known attraction. The popular event — with a theme kept secret to the public — has shows on Friday night along with afternoon and nightly shows on Saturday and Sunday.

The No Joes Circus will be the featured event this weekend, with shows on Friday at 9:30 p.m., Saturday at 1 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. and on Sunday at 2:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Music will be in the air all weekend as  Shucking Bubba Deluxe, DJ Pac-Man, The Bulldogs 50s and 60s Band, Kyle Koesters, Kevin and the Others, Mic Stan Band, Free Lance and Saw Creek perform.

The Maria Stein Art Show will feature works from local and Ohio artists on Saturday and Sunday.

Folk Mass will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The 83rd annual Pilgrimmage, a walk-along with The Knights of St. John, the American Legion, and the local clergy as they pray the rosary and other prayers, from St. Johns Catholic Church in Maria Stein to Relic Chapel grounds will be on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Country Fest also offers plenty of food to satisfy everyone’s palate, plus a petting zoo, games and rides.
