Staff Writer

The Marion Community Development Organization met on Tuesday, April 10.

Nick Moeller provided an update on the Marion Community Bike Trail Project.  The committee is continuing work on a Bike Rodeo in coordination with Marion Local Schools on September 30, 2018 with the Multi-Use Path Fundraising Event scheduled at Marion Township Park for that date.    If you wish to donate to the project, please send to: MCDO – Multi-Use Path, PO Box 65, Maria Stein, OH  45860.  The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 24th, 2018 at 8 p.m. at the Moeller Brew Barn.
On March 15th, members of the MCDO conducted a walk-through of the entire length of the State Route 716 proposed sidewalk area.  Extensive notes and photos were taken.  The information is still being analyzed as there are some structural items and challenges that affect the path of the sidewalk.  The MCDO will prepare a power point presentation outlining the final results and will then meet with the residents to discuss next steps.
The annual Community Banquet is scheduled for Sunday, April 15.  The banquet will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Maria Stein American Legion.  The Distinguished Developer Award will be presented to the Congregation of the Precious Blood / Maria Stein Shrine of the Holy Relics.  The Distinguished Student Award will be presented to Josh Applegate.
Nick Moeller recently contacted Vectren Energy for the possibility and feasibility of natural gas in the Maria Stein area.  Moeller has reached out several times and has not received any additional response from Vectren for follow-up.

The group also was reminded  Marion Local Schools will host a community meeting on Monday, April 30at 7 p.m.  There will be information and discussion surrounding the proposed facilities project.

Membership in other area Chambers of Commerce were discussed.  The group decided it does not make sense to move outside the Marion Community as it does not fit the mission of and would not benefit the MCDO.  Additional discussion included highlighting the business members of the MCDO.  There will be further discussion in the coming meeting(s) about the best approach of accentuating these businesses.
The MCDO was recently approached about providing financial support to major projects in the surrounding area.  After discussing the mission and purpose of the MCDO, the board decided to refrain from donating funds to projects outside of the Marion Community.

The next scheduled MCDO meeting is set for Tuesday, May 8 at 7 p.m in the Marion Township Building.
