The Midwest Athletic Conference features four girls basketball teams this winter that have separated themselves from the rest of the field. Between Versailles, Minster, Fort Recovery and New Bremen, the squads  had a combined 44-3 record heading into Thursday night.

Three kept pace while one fell to another in that group on Thursday in area girls basketball action.

Versailles moved to 14-1 and 5-0 in the MAC with an easy win over Marion Local. Minster — which was recently ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press’ Division IV rankings — blew out St. Henry. In the biggest game of the night, Fort Recovery handed the previously 11-1 New Bremen Cardinals a 16-point loss.

Next week will bring even more clarity to the MAC title chase the top four teams have match-ups with each other, as Minster hosts New Bremen and Versailles goes to Fort Recovery.

Minster 65, St. Henry 25
Make a dozen straight wins to start the season for the Minster girls basketball team. The Wildcats pounced on the Redskins and ran away for a 40-point victory to move to 4-0 in the Midwest Athletic Conference.

Versailles 55, Marion Local 17
The Tigers, ranked second in the AP’s Division III poll this week, had little trouble against the Flyers with a dominant defensive effort. No player for Marion Local scored more than four points while Haily McEldowney had a game-high nine points for the Tigers.

Fort Recovery 36, New Bremen 20
Fort Recovery held New Bremen scoreless in the third quarter and survived a fourth quarter in which it only scored one point in a key 36-20 win over the Cardinals. Jane Homan led New Bremen with 10 points, but the going was tough against the Indians. New Bremen shot 6-of-30 (20 percent) from the floor.

Fort Loramie 32, Anna 29
In another hard-fought SCL game for the Redskins. Fort Loramie got past the Rockets to stay unbeaten in and atop the league standings. Fort Loramie started off 3-8 from the floor in the first quarter to take an 8-6 lead. Then in the second quarter is was back and forth with Anna tying the game up at 13-13 to end the half.  In the fourth quarter Marissa Meiring had five points to help seal the win. Kenzie Hoelscher led all scorers with 10 points and five rebounds. For Anna Macey Huelskamp had  eight points. Fort Loramie is 10-4 (7-0) and plays at Botkins on Thursday.

Coldwater 61, Parkway 39
Coldwater moved to 2-3 in the MAC while Parkway falls to 2-2 in conference play.

Delphos St. John’s 40, New Knoxville 37
In a battle of teams entering the night without a MAC win, Delphos St. John’s squeezed past the Rangers.
