A Win Away: New Bremen Volleyball Sweeps Fort Loramie

It must've felt like a walk in the park compared to the grueling path the Cardinals took here.

The New Bremen volleyball team (22-4) swept away Fort Loramie in three sets in a Division IV regional semifinal at Northmonth High School on Thursday night, advancing to within a match of returning to the state tournament. The Cardinals will square off with Jackson Center on Saturday at 2 p.m. in a regional title match at Northmont.

The defending Division IV champions ended Fort Loramie's Cinderella run through the postseason. After ending the regular season two games under .500, the young Redskins got to the regional. NEw Bremen proved too experienced and too tough in the 25-22, 25-14, 25-13 win, however. It's the second straight season New Bremen has ended Fort Loramie's season at the regional level.

New Bremen was led by Macy Puthoff's eight kills. Claire Pape added seven kills. After needing a comeback from a 2-0 deficit in the district final last week against top-ranked St. Henry, the Cardinals made quick work of their regional opponent.

Now the Cardinals will face another Shelby County squad for a chance to advance to state at Wright State.

New Bremen swept Jackson Center in the regular season back on Sept. 1, 25-17, 25-16, 25-18. New Bremen's path to state in 2018 will feature the same two teams at the regional level as last year, but in different order. New Bremen defeated Jackson Center in three sets last year in a regional semifinal match.
