As Ethan Wolf, a University of Tennessee senior to-be and Minster grad, readies for his final season for the Volunteers, he’s been named to a watch list for the award that honors the best tight end in the nation for the second straight season.

Wolf earned the selection last week for the John Mackey Award, which will be announced on Dec. 6 and presented during the college football awards show on ESPNU.

Wolf, a 6-foot-6, 258 pounder who has has 67 career catches and four touchdowns., is expected to be a starter for the fourth straight season for the Vols. Last year, he caught 21 passes for 239 yards and two touchdowns, including a 20-yard touchdown catch against the Florida Gators in a dramatic comeback victory for Tennessee. He caught a season-high four passes against Kentucky later in the season.

His career numbers are putting Wolf in elite company. He is fifth in career receiving yards (752). Dallas Cowboy Jason Witten (797) and Luke Stocker (956) are within reach this season. He’s also just the third Volunteer to ever be named a semifinalist for the Mackey award along with Witten and Stocker.

Tennessee opens its 2017 season on Monday, Sept. 4 against Georgia Tech in Atlanta at 8 p.m. in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff game. The game will be televised by ESPN.
