Thousands flocked to Minster over the weekend as the Oktoberfest returned for its 47th year after having been canceled last year because of the pandemic. Things got kicked off on Friday night when stands opened at 6 p.m and Autobahn performed at the Gazebo at 7 p.m. The Little Miss Oktoberfest contest began at 10 a.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall where 18 contestants vied for the crown. Hannah Heckman, 6, the daughter of Dave and Annie Heckman was the winner. Opening ceremonies began at noon at the Gazebo with the Miss Oktoberfest Pageant following at 1 p.m. Ava Grieshop, the daughter of Dave and Karla Grieshop, took home the crown. Rain made its way into the area as the Beer Tray Relays took place on Fourth Street with the Jug Hoist following. Live music closed out Saturday night and the 10K Run kicked off Sunday morning with James Ngandu of Van Wert winning the men’s division and Laney Studebaker of Dayton winning the women’s division. The Oktoberfest Parade began at 2 p.m. as the streets were lined with spectators.
